Millions of homes worldwide are equipped with water heating systems such as boilers or water heaters. If these devices overheat, internal pressure can rise significantly, potentially leading to tank rupture. While rare, such incidents can be catastrophic, propelling a water heater through the floor and roof of a house. How can we rest easy knowing that a potential disaster could be lurking in our basements? The solution lies in a small but vital component known as the Temperature/Pressure Relief Valve (TPRV). This spring-loaded device is typically located on the side or top of the tank. When pressure or temperature exceeds safe limits, the valve opens, allowing water to escape and reducing internal pressure to prevent failure. Other than periodic testing, this valve may remain inactive for years. It should only open if the thermostat fails. Like a car’s airbag or a building’s fire sprinkler system, the relief valve is designed to activate only when needed. However, it plays a crucial role in ensuring safety and preventing system failure. In pump systems, similar principles apply. Pumps move liquids, and pressure can build due to factors like head pressure, friction loss, or blockages. For kinetic pumps like centrifugal or turbine types, flow rate changes with pressure, so they may not always need overpressure protection. However, rotary positive displacement pumps—such as gear, vane, or lobe pumps—maintain consistent flow regardless of pressure. In the event of a downstream blockage, pressure can quickly rise beyond safe levels, making overpressure protection essential. Relief valves are the most common form of protection for these pumps. Relief valves operate using a spring and poppet mechanism. Under normal conditions, the spring keeps the valve closed. When pressure increases, the spring is overcome, allowing the valve to open and release excess flow. Adjusting screws allow for customization of the pressure setting. Important note: This information applies specifically to Viking Pumps. Not all manufacturers follow the same design, so it's crucial to consult the manufacturer if you're using a different brand. There are three main types of relief valves used with Viking Pumps. The Internal Relief Valve is built into the pump and requires no additional piping. The Return-to-Tank Relief Valve directs excess flow back to the supply tank, helping to manage heat and provide visual feedback. The Inline Relief Valve is installed in the discharge line and is ideal for frequent bypass scenarios. While the perfect valve is one that never needs to act, its presence is critical. Just like the TPR valve on a water heater, multiple forms of overpressure protection—such as rupture discs, pressure transmitters, and motor protection—are recommended. Many Viking pumps have operated for decades without ever needing their relief valve, yet it remains an essential safeguard against catastrophic failure. Often overlooked, the pressure relief valve is the silent guardian of your pump system.

Di-Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide, also known as Dibenzoyl peroxide, commonly known as Initiator BPO,It is a strong oxidant, used as a monomer polymerization initiator for polyvinyl chloride, unsaturated polyesters, polyacrylates, etc., as a crosslinking agent for polyethylene, and as a rubber vulcanizing agent.
Benzoyl peroxide is an oxidizer, which is principally used as in the production of polymers.
As a bleach, it has been used as a medication and a water disinfectant. In specialized contexts, the name may be abbreviated as BPO.
As a medication, benzoyl peroxide is mostly used to treat acne, either alone or in combination with other treatments. Some versions are sold mixed with antibiotics such as clindamycin. t is also used in dentistry for teeth whitening.
Benzoyl peroxide is also used in the plastics industry and for bleaching flour, hair, and textiles. It is also used to remove stubborn stains from dolls and other plastic toys, although some users have claimed that the product has unwanted long-term effects of discolouring the item.
