On September 9th, a reporter learned from the Municipal Public Security Bureau that the Anshan authorities have invested 120 million yuan to establish 5,050 surveillance points across the city. The city's video surveillance and alarm system is set to officially launch on August 15. These advanced systems have already proven their effectiveness in several high-profile cases, helping law enforcement identify and apprehend suspects with remarkable speed. One notable case occurred on November 25, 2005, and February 17, 2006, when the public transport police quickly identified a suspect through a video surveillance system installed on a long-distance bus. This led to the arrest of two individuals who had stolen passengers' laptops, resulting in the recovery of 11 computers and the resolution of 11 theft cases. Another incident took place on February 24, 2006, when a taxi driver was attacked near Tielung’s Worker Street, losing 108 yuan. After reviewing surveillance footage from a nearby barbecue restaurant, the police were able to identify the suspect and successfully arrest him on March 5. On March 18, 2006, four armed men robbed Zhao in front of Haicheng City Credit Union, stealing 46,000 yuan. The Haicheng Police quickly analyzed the surveillance footage, identified the suspects, and arrested them shortly after. A tragic accident occurred on January 29, 2006, when Zhang from Taian County was hit by a motor vehicle while cycling. The vehicle fled the scene, and Zhang later died in the hospital. Through extensive review of surveillance footage, the police identified the vehicle involved and arrested the driver, Zhang. These examples demonstrate how the surveillance system has become an essential tool for law enforcement. Since its implementation, crime rates have significantly dropped. From January to July, criminal cases decreased by 13.1% year-on-year, and major crimes such as arson, explosions, hijackings, homicides, rapes, kidnappings, and robberies saw a 28.9% decline. The surveillance network includes 5,050 monitoring points strategically placed across Anshan and Haicheng. These locations include key roads like Anhai and Qianshan, five major markets, 10 closed residential communities, parks, and high-income neighborhoods. Additionally, 11 high-crime areas and 81 key traffic intersections are covered. A command center has been established in each police station, allowing real-time access to surveillance footage. This comprehensive system creates a safety net across the city, covering both urban areas and critical infrastructure. According to a senior officer, the system not only helps detect crimes faster but also acts as a strong deterrent for potential offenders. The installation focused on high-risk zones, commercial centers, and residential areas, ensuring maximum coverage and practical results. To enhance the system, the Public Security Bureau recently held a Front-end Equipment Exhibition Fair, featuring top brands like Panasonic, Siemens, Samsung, Eric, and Yaan. These companies showcased cutting-edge surveillance equipment, including hundreds of high-definition cameras. The video surveillance and alarm system is now fully operational, marking a significant step forward in public safety in Anshan.
