This is the re-launch of the Auman GTL Super Edition after the global launch of the Cummins Technology Research and Development Center in the United States on April 8th. It is reported that this heavy truck equipped with a Cummins ISG heavy-duty engine has achieved a dual upgrade of power and emission standards.

On the same day, Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Foton Motors) and Cummins Inc.'s "European and LNG clean energy technology innovation project signing ceremony" also officially held, the two sides will continue to carry out strategic cooperation in the field of clean power.

According to reports, the in-line six-cylinder Cummins ISG series heavy-duty engine, currently a total of two models ISG11L and ISG12L to the market, the power section 310-512 horsepower (228-382 kilowatts). This series of heavy-duty engines has been specially designed to meet a wide range of global emission standards and will be available in 2014 to meet Euro IV, China IV and Euro V emission standards. The same platform can be upgraded to Euro VI emission standards.

In fact, since the establishment of Beijing Foton Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. in 2008, the focus has been on the development of clean power technology. The “Betting” clean energy, to a certain extent, is also due to its anticipation of the future trend of China and the global heavy truck market. To this end, the cooperation between the two parties also appears to be "step by step": In June 2010, Foton Motor and Cummins signed the ESF six-engine license agreement for ISF engines; in 2013, Foton Motors and the United States Cummins Brazil commercial vehicle strategic cooperation project was signed in Brazil, Cummins ISG Heavy-duty engine project officially started.

Today, the mass production of Cummins ISG heavy-duty engines also means that Foton completed its layout in heavy-duty engines. At present, the ISG series engines are produced in Beijing's new, heavy-duty plant, Foton Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. The new factory has a total investment of 2.2 billion yuan and covers an area of ​​66,000 square meters. The current installed capacity is 60,000 units. According to the market development, the production capacity can be increased to 120,000 units. This will undoubtedly effectively enhance the market competitiveness of Foton Motor’s heavy-duty trucks.

In addition, at the site of the Cummins ISG mass production off-line ceremony, Foton Motor also held a global listing of Foton Daimler's GTL Super Edition. According to public information, this new heavy truck equipped with ISG heavy-duty engines has made breakthroughs in fuel economy, safety, reliability, comfort, and comprehensive operating costs.

Today, Cummins ISG heavy-duty engines and Auman GTLs were jointly developed by Foton Motors and Cummins based on the vehicle platform. The ability of heavy trucks to position the growth market will lead the future of heavy trucks with new breakthrough technologies.” Wang Jinyu, general manager of Foton Motor stated: “The end result is a significant improvement in the user experience. Based on the six-year cooperation foundation between Foton Motors and Cummins, the two parties formally signed an agreement on the LNG clean energy technology innovation project on June 7 this year to prepare for the establishment of future technological advancement and emission upgrade advantages. According to Foton Motors and Cummins, this future-oriented heavy-duty engine platform has a wide range of market prospects, and its application scope is expected to further expand into non-road, power, and clean energy fields.

But this does not mean that the future road of Foton will be smooth. Public data shows that in May this year, the heavy truck market sold about 75,000 vehicles, down 3% from the same period last year and down 15% from the previous period. This is the first time that the heavy truck market has experienced a decline after 13 consecutive months of growth. It seems to the industry that this may mean that the heavy truck market will enter the traditional off-season and decline channels.

From the situation in the first half of this year, the overall sales volume of the heavy-duty truck market was approximately 365,800 units, up 12% year-on-year; of which, Dongfeng, CNHTC, and FAW each sold 73,400 units, 60,300 units, and 58,400 units. Ranked in the top three. It is not known at present that whether Foton Motors, with the sales volume of 5,490 vehicles ranked fourth, can advance into the first camp of the heavy truck market in 2014 through the Auman GTL Super Edition.
