At Autodesk, innovation isn't just a buzzword—it's the core of who we are. It fuels everything we do, from the products we create to the experiences we offer our employees. And I'm incredibly proud to share that for the second year in a row, Autodesk has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the Best Workplaces for Innovators in 2023.
This recognition is more than just a badge of honor; it's a testament to our commitment to fostering an environment where creativity thrives and new ideas are encouraged. Our culture is built on empowering employees to think differently, challenge the status quo, and drive meaningful change—both inside and outside the company.

In celebration of this achievement, I spoke with three of our incredible culture leaders to understand what makes Autodesk stand out when it comes to innovation. Here’s what they had to say:
**Workplace Innovator: Jenny Lum, Director of Global Projects**
**Program:** Embracing a hybrid-first workplace
“We’ve taken a different approach compared to many companies. Instead of enforcing strict return-to-office policies, we introduced Flex Forward—a flexible model that allows employees to work from anywhere in the world where we can legally operate. While we still value in-person collaboration, we make sure those meetings are meaningful, focused, and impactful.â€
“Our offices have been redesigned to support this new way of working. We now have dedicated spaces for focused work, collaborative brainstorming, and social interaction. Plus, we launched the Autodesk Conference Experience (ACE), which helps teams personalize their onsite gatherings, ensuring every meeting is productive and engaging.â€
“This approach has not only boosted employee satisfaction but also attracted a diverse talent pool, especially from underrepresented groups. We believe diversity drives innovation, and Flex Forward is helping us build a more inclusive and dynamic workforce.â€
**DEI Innovator: Ramona Blake, Senior Director of Diversity & Belonging**
**Program:** Diversifying leadership development
“Diversity starts with attracting talent, but it doesn’t end there. We need to ensure underrepresented employees have the tools and opportunities to grow into leadership roles. That’s why we created the NEXT LEVEL program—a leadership development initiative for Black and Brown employees.â€
“The program includes mentorship, coaching, and hands-on learning. In fact, participants even competed in ‘Innovation Idol,’ where they developed and pitched ML-based solutions to real business challenges. This experience gave them valuable exposure to emerging technologies and helped them build strong business cases.â€
“The long-term impact of this program is huge. These future leaders will bring fresh perspectives and innovative thinking to our company, driving better products and solutions for our customers.â€
**Impact Innovator: Christine Stoner, Executive Director of the Autodesk Foundation**
**Program:** Democratizing employee-led grantmaking
“Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) know our communities best. So, we partnered with them to give them control over how $140,000 in unrestricted funds were used. They chose nonprofits that align with their values and the causes they care about.â€
“This process was deeply innovative. ERG leaders received training on strategic grantmaking, including how to develop an impact thesis, conduct due diligence, and engage communities in decision-making. The result? Real, measurable impact.â€
“For example, the Latinx Network funded LatinaGeeks to support women in tech, while the Black Network and Young Professionals Network collaborated on Techbridge Girls, inspiring BIPOC girls to pursue STEM careers. This initiative shows how employee-driven efforts can create lasting change.â€
At Autodesk, we're not just building software—we're shaping the future of design, engineering, and sustainability. A culture of innovation is what will unlock the next big idea that makes buildings greener, products smarter, and stories more compelling.
A better world is being designed—and we’re proud to be part of it.
