Last night, I witnessed a significant house fire in Frankfort’s area and managed to capture several images that tell the story of how firefighters responded under challenging conditions. Here’s what happened:
Frankfort Ladder Company 2 was first on the scene and found a two-story single-family home engulfed in flames from both the front and back. The firefighters acted swiftly, dousing the fire from the exterior before entering the structure. Despite temperatures hovering around 20 degrees Fahrenheit, they encountered no issues with water supply and managed to extinguish the blaze relatively quickly.
The address where this incident occurred is 19949 Spruce Drive, and it took place on January 2, 2012. Among the responding units were Frankfort Fire Department, Tinley Park Truck 204, Matteson Ambulance 2, and Manhattan Squad 1216.
I took some photos that showcase different stages of the operation. In one image, you can see Frankfort Ladder 2’s team working inside the house after successfully controlling the flames from the outside. Another shot captures their efforts just before they could safely enter the property. There’s also an image highlighting the venting work done by the Frankfort engine crew on the rear side of the building. Additionally, there’s a picture of Ladder 2’s crew positioned on the roof, alongside a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) stationed at the front of the building. The final photo shows the initial arrival of Frankfort Ladder 2, complete with a hose line extended to the roof and multiple water sources ready for action.
