Last night, emergency services from the Arlington Heights Fire Department were dispatched to a residence on the 900 block of West Lynwood Avenue following reports of a fire. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered significant smoke emanating from a single-story home. Arlington Heights Fire Commander Tom Zerfass later confirmed that smoke was clearly visible as soon as crews arrived on the scene. The initial response included Arlington Heights Engine 2, which was the first unit on site. Despite the challenging conditions, firefighters managed to control the situation relatively swiftly. However, the intensity of the smoke meant that the property was declared uninhabitable by local authorities. According to the Daily Herald, the fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damages, primarily affecting the living room area. Fortunately, the structural integrity of the building remained intact, though the interior suffered considerable smoke damage. Eyewitnesses noted that the fire appeared to have originated in the furniture within the living space. Once the flames were extinguished, charred remnants of sofas were removed from the premises. Additional support was requested from neighboring departments in Palatine and Buffalo Grove to ensure the fire didn’t spread further. These reinforcements played a crucial role in containing the incident efficiently. Residents were not at home when the fire broke out, avoiding any potential danger to life. Photos taken by photographer Larry Shapiro capture the aftermath of the blaze, showing the extent of the damage and the diligent efforts of emergency personnel. It also highlights the rapid response capability of local emergency teams who worked tirelessly to mitigate the situation. For now, the homeowners are advised to assess the full scope of repairs needed before considering returning to the property.
