This message comes from Josh Boyajian: --- Late Thursday afternoon, my friends and I decided to head over to West Sub Hospital hoping to spot the newly appointed Battalion 18 while he was around. But before we could even get close, we were rerouted due to an unexpected still alarm at 5012 W. Madison Street. Engine 113 was the first unit to arrive, and when they got there, everything appeared calm—no visible signs of fire from the three-story apartment building above the commercial space. However, as Tower 14 pulled up shortly after, they quickly noticed thick smoke billowing out from the back of the building. Engine 113 took charge and sent a crew up to the second floor, where they discovered a small fire in one of the bedrooms. It didn’t take long for them to extinguish it. I’m pretty confident that this might have been Battalion 18’s very first fire call on the west side. These photos I snapped give you a good idea of what happened.
