I just got off the phone with Tim Olk, who sent me some incredible photos of a fire that broke out earlier today at 8001 S. Morgan. The images really capture the intensity and chaos of the situation.
The first shot shows a Chicago fire engine arriving at the scene, its bright red color standing out against the gray smoke billowing into the sky. It's clear they moved fast to get there. There’s another angle where you can see firefighters working on ventilating the roof—smoke is pouring out as they tackle the blaze. In one image, flames are shooting right out of a window, which must have been quite a sight. You can almost feel the heat radiating through the screen.
There are also some shots of the aftermath, like firefighters catching their breath after battling the flames. One picture shows a fire truck parked nearby, looking slightly charred but still standing strong. Another captures the eerie silence that follows such an intense event, with only a few remnants of smoke lingering in the air.
It’s moments like these that remind us how quickly things can change—and how brave our first responders are when they step in to protect us. I’m glad no one was hurt, but it’s definitely a stark reminder of why we need these dedicated professionals.
