Beijing December 5 morning news, according to foreign reports, Royal Dutch Shell Group signed a cooperation agreement with Qatar on Sunday to build a petrochemical plant in Ras Laffan, Qatar, with a total investment estimated at US$6.4 billion .

Qatar Energy Minister Mohammed al-Sada and Shell CEO Peter Voser signed the cooperation agreement in Doha on Sunday. Saada said: "We expect the total cost will reach 6.4 billion U.S. dollars, but at this stage we should be cautious about the total investment cost."

When asked if this agreement would replace a similar agreement between Qatar and ExxonMobil of the United States, Saada responded by saying: "No, this is not to replace Mobil's cooperation agreement. This is a continuation of our strategic plan. Qatar There are other petrochemical plant construction plans."

Although industry insiders disclosed last year that they believed ExxonMobil had withdrawn from the cooperation agreement with Qatar, Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson denied this and said he is still waiting for the Qatar decision.

It is reported that Qatar's chemical plant jointly built with Shell will be able to produce 1.5 million tons of monoethylene glycol and 300,000 tons of linear alpha-olefin annually, mainly for export to Asian markets. Qatar-owned oil companies will hold 80% of the project, while Shell will hold the remaining 20%.
