The rapid detection technology for trace residues of veterinary drugs researched and developed by Tang Hong, a researcher of the Institute of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was recently settled in Taizhou, Jiangsu, and entered the industrialization stage and was put on the market.

According to reports, this series of technologies can detect antibiotics and banned chemicals in animal-original foods in the shortest 10 minutes. Through the cooperation with Jiangsu Province, more than 80 kinds of food safety and rapid detection products based on the eight categories of the technology have been on the market. This move has become a solid step in the establishment of a food safety technical security system by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

“Because of the large number of subjects for which veterinary drug residues are detected, the standards are not the same, together with the non-existence of illegally added drugs, the detection technology must also cover a wide range. This requires that R&D personnel can be 'highly skilled and high-quality' and they will alert the national regulatory authorities. When you start, you can quickly come up with the appropriate product." Tang Hong said.

It is understood that under the leadership of the Bureau of Regional Cooperation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Taizhou Research Center of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences built the Taizhou Protein Engineering Research Institute with the Taizhou National Biomedical High-tech Park as early as two years ago. In the past two years, the institute has obtained dozens of monoclonal antibodies with independent intellectual property rights, and has established nearly 30 product standards with the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Quality Supervision.

Taizhou Protein Engineering Research Institute has now established a production base for colloidal gold test strips and enzyme-linked immunoassay kits, with an annual production capacity of 1 million and 10,000 boxes respectively, and an annual production value of over 50 million yuan.

Tang Hong believes that if the Chinese Academy of Sciences can integrate theoretical and technological advantages related to food safety in fields such as physics, chemistry, materials, biology, remote sensing, environment, automation and intelligence, and sound and optoelectronics, it will certainly be able to create new products in national food safety testing. More portable, sophisticated smart instruments and detection reagents, etc., and the development of food safety risk assessment standards to promote China's food safety career forward.

According to reports, the Beijing Municipal Government has recently learned that the Chinese Academy of Sciences has such technology and has stated that it will join hands with the Chinese Academy of Sciences in building a food safety barrier in Beijing.
