OceanSaver has recently delivered and commissioned the first ballast water system for retrofit installation and has received DNV type certification. The project was completed this summer and was installed on the “H?egh Trove” car carrier operated by Högeh Autoliners, managed by Högeh Fleet Services.
The modification is in compliance with the mandatory requirements of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments, promulgated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2004.
DNV certification covers all aspects of ship safety, including the new dynamic balance, cavitation of ballast tanks, dehydrogenation of the disinfection unit and ballast effect testing.

Jad Mouawad, senior engineer for DNV Cargo Handling and Piping Systems, said: "Technical feasibility is the most important issue in the evaluation of ballast water treatment systems. Our investigators worked closely with ship owners and equipment suppliers to achieve expectations. As a result, ship operations can be operated efficiently, safely and environmentally."
The ballast water treatment system installed on the "H?egh Trove" is fully integrated with the ship's existing automation system with a processing capacity of 1000 m3/h. It is based on OceanSaver's MKI (first generation) technology. The operating steps include Filtration, cavitation, disinfection and filling of supersaturated nitrogen.
In addition, OceanSaver plans to install nine systems for the H?egh fleet in the next few years, and the company currently holds orders worth more than 400 million Norwegian kroner.
