2010 US Metal Processing Machine Tool Import and Export Comprehensive Analysis

A few days ago, the American Manufacturing Technology Association (AMT) announced the latest statistics on the December 2010 US metalworking machine tool import and export trade. In December, the export value of US metal processing machine tools increased by 14.92% year-on-year, and the import value increased by 69.04% year-on-year. From January to December 2010, exports of U.S. metal processing machine tools increased by 24.9% year-on-year, while imports increased by 11.3%.

In December 2010, the U.S. exported 190 million U.S. dollars worth of metal processing machines, a decrease of 6% from the previous quarter and a year-on-year increase of 14.92%. Among them, exports of CNC machine tools reached US$83 million in December 2010, a decrease of 17.8% from the previous quarter. From January to December 2010, the United States exported 2.210 billion U.S. dollars worth of metal processing machine tools, an increase of 24.9% from the 1.679 billion U.S. dollars in the same period in 2009, and cumulatively exported 903 million U.S. dollars worth of CNC machine tools, an increase of 39.9% over the 667 million U.S. dollars in the same period in 2009.

In terms of product types, in December 2010, the United States exported US$123 million in metal-cutting machine tools, a decrease of 7.7% from the previous quarter; export metal-forming machines reached US$70 million, a decrease of 2.7% from the previous quarter. From January to December, the United States exported 1.374 billion U.S. dollars worth of metal-cutting machine tools, an increase of 24.9% from the figure of 1.1 billion U.S. dollars in the same period in 2009, and exports of metal forming machines accounted for 746 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 24.9% from the figure of 597 million U.S. dollars in the same period of 2009.

From the machine tool export market, in December 2010, Mexico was the largest export market for metalworking machines in the United States. Exports increased by 7.6% to US$19.6 million from November. The second largest export market is Canada, with an export volume of 25.9 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 22.3% from the previous quarter. The remaining top five markets are: China (24,400,000 US dollars), the United Kingdom (19 million US dollars) and China Taiwan (11 million US dollars).

U.S. Metal Processing Machine Tool Imports Continue to Increase In December 2010, U.S. imports and exports metal processing machines worth 360 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 26% from the previous quarter and a year-on-year increase of 14.92%. Among them, imports of CNC machine tools in December 2010 amounted to US$275 million, a 40.3% increase from the previous quarter. From January to December 2010, the United States accumulatively imported metal processing machine tools for 2.741 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 11.3% over the 2.463 billion U.S. dollars for the same period in 2009; the cumulative import of CNC machine tools was 1.816 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 12.3% over the 1.617 billion U.S. dollars for the same period in 2009.

Judging from the type of product, in December 2010, the United States imported metal cutting machine tools worth 307 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 39.4% over the previous period; imported metal forming machine tools totaled 53.7 million U.S. dollars, a decrease of 18.6% from the previous quarter. From January to December, the United States imported a total of US$2.155 billion worth of metal-cutting machine tools, an increase of 13.4% from US$1.901 billion in the same period of 2009; cumulative imports of metal-forming machine tools totaled US$586 million, an increase of 4.2% from US$562 million in the same period of 2009.

From the perspective of machine tool import sources, Japan and Germany are still the main source of U.S. machine tool imports. In December, the U.S. imported 175 million U.S. dollars worth of machine tools from Japan, an increase of 35% from the previous month; and U.S. machine tools imported from Germany reached 4,500 U.S. dollars, an increase of 18.7%. . The remaining top five sources of imports were: Italy (US$25.6 million), Switzerland (US$23.1 million), and China Taiwan (US$22.7 million).
