Exciting news for all Autodesk Revit software subscribers! Autodesk is releasing an updated version of Revit software for Building Information Modeling (BIM) today, and it’s now available to both Maintenance Subscription and Desktop Subscription customers*. This latest update, Revit 2016 R2, brings over 25 enhancements, many of which were directly requested by our users.
Building upon the speed and project performance improvements introduced in Revit 2016, Revit 2016 R2 offers even faster navigation and greater scalability. These updates ensure that subscribers can capture design intent more effectively and efficiently. The new release maintains full compatibility with existing Revit 2016 files, ensuring that there are no disruptions to ongoing projects.
One of the standout features in Revit 2016 R2 is the **Draw Visible Elements Only** option, which significantly speeds up navigation. By focusing only on visible elements within a view, this feature suppresses unnecessary regeneration of content, particularly beneficial when working with large, complex models. Additionally, the introduction of **Color Fill Background Processing** allows Revit to update room, space, HVAC zone, duct, and pipe color fills using multiple CPUs, minimizing delays and improving overall responsiveness.
Revit 2016 R2 also introduces smarter tools designed to enhance how design intent is captured and embedded in models. For instance, the **Global Parameters** feature lets you use project-wide parameters to drive dimensions and element instance parameters, allowing for dynamic calculations and seamless integration across the entire project. Another innovative tool, **Family Visibility Preview**, helps filter out unwanted geometries, offering a clearer view of your design intent and streamlining the process of loading families into your projects.
Beyond these major improvements, over 20 user-requested enhancements have been added to Revit 2016 R2. These include the ability to unload links per user to boost performance and reduce memory usage without impacting other team members, copy/paste commands in perspective views, and the option to cancel print or export operations for multiple views and sheets with a single click. There are also new ways to filter and select solids/voids, as well as enhanced rotation controls and an insert part option in fabrication part modeling.
For those managing large teams or complex workflows, the incremental nature of Revit R2 makes it easier to implement updates without causing significant disruption. Smaller, staggered updates allow users and administrators to adapt more smoothly, balancing any downtime against the clear benefits of enhanced performance, usability, and stability.
Autodesk Revit 2016 R2 is now available globally to Maintenance and Desktop Subscription customers starting today, October 20. The software will be offered in 13 languages, including Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.
