The Mundelein Fire Department in Division 4 recently welcomed a brand-new 2010 Sutphen 1500/500 75′ mid-mount quint into their fleet. This impressive fire truck is stationed at Station 2 and comes fully equipped with a comprehensive set of Hurst rescue tools mounted in the front bumper. It features dual reels, a PTO generator, and is fully capable of providing advanced life support (ALS). Its robust design and state-of-the-art features make it an invaluable addition to the department's operational capabilities. Attached is a photo of this remarkable piece of firefighting equipment, captured by Mark Gaunky. The image showcases the sleek design and powerful presence of the 2010 Sutphen 75′ mid-mount quint, proudly serving the community. In another exciting development, Mundelein has also completed a meticulous restoration of their historic 1925 Stoughton pumper. Retired Lieutenant Jim Carew led this incredible project, ensuring that this vintage vehicle was restored to its former glory. As Mark Gaunky noted, this restoration involved a complete frame-up process, preserving 75% of the original components. Originally gifted to the village by Cardinal George Mundelein in gratitude for renaming the town, this pumper initially cost $7,500. The recent restoration effort required a significant investment of $65,000 but was well worth it to preserve such an important piece of local history. This 1925 Stoughton pumper boasts a 350-gallon-per-minute (GPM) pump and carries 150 gallons of water. It served the community faithfully for over two decades before being retired. Thanks to the dedication of those involved, this classic piece of firefighting history now stands as a testament to the evolution of emergency services in Mundelein. Attached photos provide a closer look at this beautifully restored vehicle. One image highlights the pristine condition of the pumper, while another offers a side-angle view that captures its timeless charm. These images, also taken by Mark Gaunky, showcase the attention to detail and craftsmanship that went into this restoration project. The combination of modern firefighting technology and preserved historical pieces underscores Mundelein's commitment to both innovation and tradition. Whether through cutting-edge equipment like the 2010 Sutphen quint or cherished relics like the 1925 Stoughton pumper, the Mundelein Fire Department continues to demonstrate excellence in serving its community.
