It’s been quite the weekend here in Lincolnshire-Riverwoods as the Fire Protection District celebrated its 75th Anniversary with an amazing open house! I couldn’t help but snap some shots throughout the day, and I have to say, it was such a heartwarming event. Families came out in droves to enjoy the festivities, and there was so much going on that everyone had something to smile about. To start off, we were treated to a stunning honor guard display. It was one of those moments where you could feel the pride and dedication radiating from every member. The crisp lines and precision were simply breathtaking, and it set the tone for the rest of the day. Tim Olk captured the essence beautifully in his photographs. One of the highlights of the day was the antique fire engine exhibit. There’s just something magical about seeing these classic machines up close. They’re not just relics; they’re a testament to how far firefighting has come over the years. Tim Olk also managed to get some great shots of these beauties. The dive team put on an incredible demonstration that had both kids and adults equally mesmerized. Watching them work together seamlessly underwater was nothing short of impressive. You can almost feel the energy and focus in the photos taken by Tim Olk and Larry Shapiro. Then there was the extrication demonstration. Now, this was something else entirely. Using Holmatro cutters, the firefighters showed everyone how they can quickly and efficiently cut through metal—perfect for rescuing people from tight spots. Larry Shapiro got some fantastic shots of the whole process, including families watching with wide-eyed wonder. Of course, no open house would be complete without a live burn demonstration. Seeing the firefighters tackle flames head-on is always awe-inspiring. Tim Olk and Niko Stefani did a great job capturing the intensity of the moment while also showing the camaraderie among the team. And let’s not forget the families who were there to support their loved ones. There were plenty of candid shots of firefighters posing with their kids or just enjoying quality time together. Tim Olk really nailed the emotion in those moments. For the younger crowd, there were all sorts of activities designed to make learning about fire safety fun. From smoke house demonstrations to letting kids slide down fire poles, it was clear that everyone had a blast. Larry Shapiro even caught a toddler getting soaked by a hose—a classic moment if ever there was one! There was also a dunk tank, which drew quite a crowd. Watching the fire chief take a dip was definitely a highlight for many attendees. Larry Shapiro’s photos perfectly capture the laughter and joy surrounding this activity. I’m still processing all the incredible moments from the day, but I know one thing for sure—it was a celebration filled with love, gratitude, and community spirit. If you missed out on the action, don’t worry—you can check out more photos over at shapirophotography.net. Looking forward to next year already!
