Last week, I attended the funeral for Chicago Firefighter Walter Patmon, Jr., who lost his life in the line of duty. It was a somber day filled with tributes and memories of a brave man who dedicated his life to serving others. The service took place at the church, where family, friends, and fellow firefighters gathered to honor his memory.
At the church, there were several powerful moments that struck me deeply. One image that stayed with me was captured by Tim Olk; it showed a poignant scene during the ceremony. Another striking photograph was taken by Larry Shapiro, highlighting the respect and dignity with which the event was conducted.
After the service, we proceeded to the cemetery for the final farewell. Larry Shapiro’s lens once again captured some of the most moving moments as the community paid their respects. His photos conveyed the deep sense of loss but also the strength found in unity.
I’ve included some of the images below so you can get a glimpse into this unforgettable day. These pictures tell stories of grief, love, and resilience, all woven together in one heartfelt tribute.

As I reflect on the day, I am reminded of how important it is to remember those who give so much for our safety. The video of the funeral will be shared soon, capturing even more of the emotions and details of this solemn occasion.
Until then, my thoughts remain with Walter's family and the entire firefighting community. Rest in peace, Firefighter Patmon.
