Monday evening around 10:30, a concerned citizen reached out to the Northbrook Fire Department to report a fire in an unoccupied two-story building close to the downtown train station. By the time the fire department's units arrived on the scene at 1856 Walters Avenue, they quickly identified it as a working fire and upgraded the response level to a Code 4. The initial firefighting efforts involved Northbrook Engines 10 & 11, Squad 12, and Tower 12, along with Ambulance 10 and Battalion 11. Glenview Truck 14 also joined the operation. As the fire escalated, additional resources were brought in, including Deerfield Truck 20, Highland Park Squad 34, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Ambulance 52, and Wheeling Engine 42. The firefighters managed to control the main blaze from the outside fairly quickly. However, they still needed to thoroughly search the building to ensure there were no extensions of the fire or any trapped occupants. Due to the intensity and duration of the incident, a Box Alarm was eventually requested to bring in more change-of-quarters companies, as the scene remained active for some time. Tim Olk and Larry Shapiro were present at the scene and generously shared their photos with us. Their images capture the intense efforts of the firefighters as they battled the flames during the night. The dedication and teamwork displayed by these emergency responders were truly commendable. Attached are several images from Tim Olk, showcasing firefighters with hoses attacking the fire, the intense action at the scene, and the coordinated efforts of the teams. Larry Shapiro also contributed compelling photos, including shots of firefighters connecting to hydrants, various firefighting vehicles like the Deerfield Bannockburn FPD aerial ladder truck, and the impressive Pierce fire trucks that were part of the operation. These photos vividly depict the challenging conditions faced by the firefighters and their unwavering commitment to protecting the community. Their swift actions undoubtedly prevented further damage and ensured the safety of everyone involved.

Stacker Reclaimer

A stacker reclaimer is a large machine used in bulk material handling operations, such as in mines, ports, and power plants. It is used to stack and reclaim bulk materials, such as coal, iron ore, limestone, and other minerals.

The stacker reclaimer consists of two main components: the stacker and the reclaimer. The stacker is responsible for stacking the bulk material into a stockpile, while the reclaimer is used to reclaim the material from the stockpile and transfer it to a conveyor or other transportation system.

The stacker reclaimer is typically mounted on tracks or wheels, allowing it to move along the stockpile and stack or reclaim material from different areas. It is equipped with a large boom or arm, which can be raised and lowered to reach the desired height and distance.

The stacker reclaimer is controlled by an operator, who uses various controls and sensors to accurately stack and reclaim the material. It is designed to handle large volumes of material efficiently and can stack or reclaim material at high speeds.
