According to news, Toyota Motor Corp. said on Thursday that it would recall 190,000 vehicles to replace the high-altitude airbags equipped with hidden dangers; and Japanese regulators said it would adjust the recall system to better cope with the sudden crisis.

Japan’s Ministry of Transportation said that last month, a Takada airbag exploded in a 2003 Toyota, and Toyota began to announce the recall, although the cause of the hidden danger has not yet been identified. Toyota said it will recall 185,000 cars in Japan, involving 19 models including Corolla and Elfa; in China, 5,000 vehicles will be recalled for investigation to take precautions. These recalled models were produced from December 2002 to December 2003 and no casualties were reported.

The Takata airbag inflators equipped with these recalled cars were produced at the Monclova plant in Mexico. The Mexican government is asking Takada to provide specific production information, and Takada must give feedback before Friday. In addition, the Japanese Ministry of Transportation said it has appointed other car manufacturers to test the hidden danger. As the largest customer of Takada Corporation, a Honda spokesperson said the company has been involved in the issue, but has not conducted an in-depth investigation. For the recalled car, Toyota said it will replace the front side airbag inflator. For cars that cannot replace parts in time, Toyota will disable the airbag system and warn passengers sitting in the front seats.

Takada rejected an order from NHTSA this week, refusing to admit that its airbag inflator is defective, and it has expanded its recall from the local hot and humid regions of the United States to the nationwide. Takada said that its own data does not support such a move, and doing so may result in areas that are most in need of replacement parts instead of what is needed. An official from the Japanese Ministry of Transportation said that if Takata’s regional recall in the United States expands nationwide, it is foreseeable that Japanese automakers will also take common actions.
