The Mahr Group acquired Helios Messtechnik in early 2006, expanding its product coverage in optical and contact shaft measurement. Mahr Helio-Scope is the first axis measurement product that the two companies merged to launch.
The Mahr Helio-Scope system can measure workpiece sizes ranging from 750mm in length to 120mm in diameter and measurable workpiece weights of 30kg. The system combines a precision telecentric optical path with a high-resolution CCD camera with a length resolution of 0.0001mm and an angular resolution of 0.0001°. Measurable parameters include length, intersection size, runout, roundness, part axis, pitch, diameter, radius, concentricity, concentricity, cone length, radius center, width of the depression or chamfer, and so on. The instrument has a zoom function that can measure small topographical features (such as bevels, grooves, etc.) that are almost impossible to measure with conventional gauges.
The system controls the automatic measurement program to complete the measurement operation through a graphical interface. When the measured parameters are displayed on the interface, the nominal size and tolerance value are input (and stored as quality control data). The workpiece to be tested is mounted vertically between two tops (or special fixtures). After the measurement is started, the CCD camera mounted on a measuring carriage scans the workpiece and collects millions of data points per second. Within a few seconds, the measurement results can be displayed on the screen and stored or printed out.
Mahr Federal Inc. recently introduced Helio-Scope, a universal optical measurement system for precision measurement and quality control of complex turned parts. The system can be used both in the metrology room and on the shop floor. It completes non-contact measurement of various parameters of turned parts in seconds. The fully automated measurement program eliminates the operator's human influence on the measurement results, and the easy-to-use graphical interface simplifies instrument operation.
