In the newly operational Qingdao Hongdao Aquatic Industrial Park, owned by Pacific Enli Group, a well-organized and efficient scene unfolds: after fishing vessels arrive with their frozen catches, warehouse staff use RF terminals to check and confirm the receipt of goods. Immediately, forklifts transport the products to designated storage locations based on information sent by the system, while scanning inventory details via the RF terminal. The data is then transmitted back to SAP WM, completing the storage process seamlessly.
The entire warehousing operation is smooth, systematic, and highly efficient. Thousands of tons of frozen fish can be quickly stored in cold storage, ensuring freshness and quality. Moreover, detailed and accurate warehousing information is maintained, with barcodes containing details such as species name, vessel name, and fishing date. These real-time “preservation†records not only support sales but also simplify future operations like delivery, inquiry, and inventory management. Dematic provided a comprehensive solution, including the DEMATIC Pick-Director System (PDS) integrated with SAP, Siemens industrial-grade wireless access points, LXE low-temperature mobile terminals, Bluetooth scanners, barcode printers, and waterproof, freeze-resistant electronic tags. The system acts as a nervous system connecting SAP (the brain) to wireless devices (hands and feet), enabling seamless communication and execution.
For example, during the receiving process, the SAP system sends instructions to the PDS, which automatically distributes tasks to the right devices. Warehouse workers scan pallets with RF terminals, forklifts move goods to designated spots, and the system updates SAP with real-time data. This ensures optimal utilization of resources and enhances overall efficiency.
A major highlight of the solution is the PDS system, which simplifies integration by managing all devices through a unified interface. It automates order execution, optimizes paths, balances loads, and integrates fully automated systems like stackers, conveyors, and sorting lines. This makes the system scalable and easy to upgrade.
The system has significantly improved operational efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and lowered maintenance costs. Unlike traditional methods that require drilling holes in cold storage walls, Dematic’s non-through-wall design installs all APs inside the cold storage, preventing air leaks and saving energy. Specialized hardware, such as low-temperature resistant APs and handheld terminals, ensures reliable performance.
