In 2016, Illinois American Water announced that over $48,000 will be distributed to 70 fire departments across Illinois through its Firefighter Grant Program. The initiative, launched in 2010, aims to support local fire and emergency services by providing financial assistance to organizations serving customers within the company’s service area.

To date, the program has awarded more than 350 grants totaling over $342,000. These funds have been used to purchase essential equipment such as personal protective gear, communication tools, firefighting equipment, water handling systems, training materials, and classroom programs, all of which help improve safety and preparedness for first responders.
