The Buffalo Grove Fire Department was alerted by a neighbor around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2016, about smoke coming from 1400 Caren Court. Upon arrival, firefighters found thick black smoke pouring from the roof vents and the rear of the first floor. The incident was escalated to a Code 4 working fire, prompting mutual aid from neighboring departments including Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Long Grove, Arlington Heights, and Rolling Meadows, in addition to all local Buffalo Grove units. Although the entire house was filled with smoke, the fire was contained to a single room on the first floor, preventing further spread. Emergency responders worked quickly to control the blaze and ensure the safety of nearby residents. Several photos captured the scene, showing the intensity of the fire and the efforts of the firefighters. These images were submitted by readers and local photographers, including Larry Shapiro, who documented the aftermath, firefighters in full gear, and even the emotional moment when pets were rescued from the burning home. The community rallied together during this incident, with many expressing gratitude for the quick response and bravery of the first responders.
