BIO-SEA® Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS), a European UV water treatment specialist, has received the French Classification Society (BV) type approval to meet IMO's BWTS requirements.
It is reported that the BIO-SEA system has been tested on CMA-CGM and Marfret's two container ships in 2012 with processing capacities of 1000 m3/h and 500 m3/h, respectively.
The BIO-SEA system combines mechanical filtration and UV disinfection technology. It does not require chemicals. It provides two filtration solutions. It was developed by BIO-UV for nearly 3 years and invested 3 million Euros. It is also the only company in France that is engaged in BWT.
BIO-UV will also receive DNV, Lloyd's, ABS equivalents and other types of approval.
